Essential Considerations for a Seamless Bridal Consultation
Wedding Dress shopping should feel exciting not overwhelming. But between the styles, the opinions and the endless inspiration pics; it's easy to get in your own way before you have even tried anything on. Here are the seven mistakes to watch for so you can walk into your appointment ready to find the dress instead of second guessing it.
WAITING UNTIL YOU HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT
You don't need to walk in knowing your silhouette, your fabric or exact style. That is what the consultation is for.
We recommend to be open to trying a range of styles and to trust your consultant. Some brides know what they want the minute they see it and others need to try them on before knowing if this feels right for them or not.
GETTING TOO ATTACHED TO ONE PHOTO
Inspiration photos are a good starting point not a checklist. A gown can move completely different on your body than it does on a hanger or in someone else's photo. Hold your reference loosely. The dress that ends up feeling like yours might not be the one you pinned.
BRINGING TOO MANY VOICES INTO THE ROOM
Everyone in your circle will have their own idea. And this doesn't mean everyone needs to be at your consultation. Bring the people who know you well enough to know when you have found the one and will be excited for you. This is your decision. Your guests are there to support it, not make it.
LOSING SIGHT OF HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL
Before you focus on necklines or lace - ask yourself a simpler question. How do you want to feel on your wedding day ? Romantic ? Understated Elegant ? Modern? Timeless ?
That answer will tell you more about the dress than any photo will do. Most gowns can be have adjustments made to get exactly your dream dress.
FOCUSSING ONLY ON THE GOWN, NOT THE EXPERIENCE
A beautiful gown is not the same as the right gown. Pay attention to how you move in it, when you dance or sit and how you will feel 3 hours into the reception. A well made gown should hold up to the whole day not just the photos. A knowledgeable bridal consultant will be able to advise you on the fit, fabric and construction so you know exactly what you are getting and why it matters.
